Our callers are pregnant or single-parenting already, often due to divorce, deceased spouses or absentee/incarcerated partners. The callers range in age from 15 to 35 years and their needs range from emotional support to housing and the basic necessities of daily living.
We anticipate an average of 10 new births each month with soon-to-be-moms joining every day. These babies will be blessed with layettes filled with clothes and baby products as well as recycled baby furniture, discount diapers and free formula.
COURAGE offers a loan program to our callers for emergency expenses such as security deposits, utilities, school tuition, auto repairs, court fees, medicines and work uniforms. These loans are paid off slowly and in small amounts and the moms maintain their dignity while working toward their independence.
We are working with a few courageous young birthmothers who choose adoption for the sake of their children.
We help grandparents in their 60s raise their grandkids when no one else can or will. We know far too many grandparents who are in their late 30s.
We’ve touched the lives of two and a half generations of COURAGE babies who may never know their fathers.
Every COURAGE story is unique and we are blessed to be of service to the families coming to COURAGE. We’re constantly reminded of Fr. Bill Goedert’s comment as we anticipated opening COURAGE’s doors twenty-two years ago, “If we help just one family, it’s worth it!” We had no idea where COURAGE would take us in the years ahead!
Our monthly newsletter is sent to over 300 callers actively participating in our program in one way or another. Our Friends mailing goes out to over 430 benefactors who have expressed an interest in our activities. Would you like to receive our free monthly mailing? Just call 708-636-8001 and leave your name.
Thank you, COURAGE Friends, for presents, baby clothes and furniture, food, formula, diapers, wipes, winter coats, lottery returns, prayers, and good wishes. You can’t imagine how many young lives have been blessed because of you!
Perhaps you know of a young mother, (or father), in the southwest suburban area who could use some help from COURAGE.
